Lower Sabao Lake Campground
Lower Sabao Lake is in TWP 35 Hancock County Maine and covers 755 acres. Sabao Lake Campground is located on the end of a peninsula where the West Branch of the Machias River leaves Lower Sabao Lake.
This campground has a beautiful wrap around sand beach where the water progressively gets deeper and is a great area for small children.
Sabao contains 20 campsites, some waterfront and some nestled into the woods. All campsites are covered by a beautiful canopy of towering pine trees. There is a boat launch at this campsite along with canoeing, kayaking, and fishing.
Depth of this lake is 34 feet, surface temperature is 73 degrees and at 32 feet 70 degrees. It is a warm water game fish lake with square tail brook trout, white pearch, yellow pearch, chain pickeral, hornpout (bullhead), smelt, white sucker, minnows, banded killifish and pumpkin sunfish.
Located on the Sunrise Trail System with over 800 miles of approved trails for ATV and mountain bike riding. Trips to Grand Lake Stream, Nicataous Lake, or the blueberry barrens near Cherryfield are all easy day trips.
